headspace provides services and support to young people, and we understand that in order to support young people best, we need to hear from them about what it’s like being a young person and what they are looking for from headspace.  That’s where hY NRG come in!  

hY NRG are a group of young people, passionate about youth mental health. We provide hY NRG members with training and support to build skills in public speaking, responding to media, and undertaking advocacy within headspace. hY NRG is made up of 24 young people (which includes four Youth Advisors) aged 16 to 25 and are a part of the group for an 18-month term.

hY NRG members will be a part of many exciting opportunities, which include:  

  • helping to develop headspace projects, programs, and policies  
  • helping shape national campaigns  
  • participating in media opportunities  
  • guiding website and social media improvements  
  • getting involved in major headspace events, like headspace Day and the headspace Forum 
  • advocating for the rights and wellbeing of young people  
  • providing input into research and evaluation  
  • plus heaps more! 

There are many benefits to being on hY NRG. hY NRG members are casual employees of headspace National. You will be paid $21 per hour (plus 25% causal loading – totalling $26.25 per hour) 

hY NRG members are paid for activities including attending in-person and online meetings and activities where hY NRG members are engaged to make a specific and significant contribution to work being conducted by headspace National. 

hY NRG members are expected to do some parts of their role on a voluntary basis like checking and responding to emails, and answering quick surveys. hY NRG members receive a range of training opportunities such as media and advocacy training. hY NRG members are often invited to attend forums and events run by headspace too. 

We would like you to apply if you: 

  • are aged between 16 and 25 years at the time of application.   
  • have engaged with a headspace service within the last 12 months. This includes, attending a headspace Centre, being a part of a local Youth Reference Group, being a part of the digital work and study service, online career mentoring service, or accessed support via eheadspace.   
  • have an interest in and passion for youth mental health  
  • are available and willing to take part in all parts of being on hY NRG for an 18-month term  
  • You need to have or be willing to obtain a valid Working with Children’s Check (or equivalent) and undergo a Police check.   

 

We are keen to hear from young people from all backgrounds and life experiences, including those from Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander backgrounds, culturally or linguistically diverse backgrounds, all genders, rural and remote areas, LGBTQIA+ communities, young people with lived experience of disability, and those with lived experience with alcohol and other drugs.

The headspace National Family and Friends National Reference Group is made up of a diverse group of people with lived experience of supporting a young person experiencing mental health challenges. Group members provide consultation and advocacy across headspace National for the role, contribution and needs of families and friends in headspace programs and services. The reference group’s important contribution enables families and friends across Australia to support young people to live rich, full and meaningful lives. 

The role of the headspace National Family and Friends National Reference Group is to: 

  • Provide advice and advocacy on the continuing development of headspace services to better engage and work with families and friends; 
  • Help shape headspace National policy, strategies and campaigns that target and support families and friends; 
  • Provide feedback on family and friends-related internal and external resources; 
  • Be involved in other projects and working groups as they arise. 

We would love you to apply if you: 

  • have a friend or family member who has experienced mental health challenges and has used headspace services or other youth mental health services; 
  • are passionate about youth mental health and wellbeing.
