Senior Youth Mental Health Clinician – LEAP

The Learning Early Assistance Programme (LEAP) is an early intervention and time limited specialised assessment and treatment service for young people 12 – 25 years in Warrnambool who experience emerging or current mental health problems; have a persistent and enduring mental illness, including severe mental illness. The Senior Mental Health Clinician is responsible for the engagement, assessment, coordination and delivery of this program.

The role will assist in the effective coordination of the program model, based on an adapted EPPIC framework, including ensuring assessment criteria are integrated into the existing headspace intake system, and can meet the local needs of young people and their families in Warrnambool.

Central to the role is ensuring the program model and service plan deliver flexible approaches including home-based care, outreach, streamlined access to inpatient and sub-acute services, access to appropriate community supports, continuing care management and psychological interventions.

The Senior Mental Health Practitioner will be responsible for the delivery and evaluation of a range of treatment responses, including group work, family programs and (family) peer support, and incorporate community education and awareness with the aim to increase community literacy and reduce the duration of untreated psychosis.

The role will also be responsible for ensuring all services provided are responsive to issues of diversity and intersectionality and are relevant creating opportunities for young people to participate in youth participation programs and to provide and receive peer support.

The role will develop referral pathways within headspace, Brophy and key partner organisations to support young people’s recovery and enhance ongoing continuing care, including general health; problematic substance use and educational and vocational needs.

The Senior Mental Health Clinician will provide quality support and clinical supervision, including secondary consultations, to a multidisciplinary team to support the provision of safe, evidence-based best practice in accordance with Brophy’s clinical governance systems and service standards to ensure youth friendly, culturally appropriate and family inclusive services are delivered and aligned with young people’s mental health and wellbeing needs.

The role will assist the Clinical Lead in staff development, orientation and training activities and contribute to the development and implementation of pathways for students and graduates, to develop their required skills and competencies, and will provide discipline-specific supervision to students and graduates.

As this position regularly engages with external stakeholders, the incumbent must be able to work collaboratively with others, maintain professionalism and actively promote Brophy Family and Youth Services to the region.
