Alfred Mental & Addiction Health is responsible for the operation of services, which focus on people with a severe mental illness residing in the Inner South Eastern area of Melbourne.

HEADSPACE

headspace Southern Melbourne was established in 2007 and Alfred Health became the lead agency in 2011. The centre was relocated and became headspace Elsternwick in 2013. In the same year, headspace Elsternwick launched the beginnings of headspace Early Psychosis program and established services offered from the Bentleigh Centre. In 2020, Alfred Health won the tender to provide the headspace services to the Monash area and the headspace Syndal Centre was established.

What you’ll be doing

As our headspace graduate, you will be a member of the ‘Start Now’ team. This is a multidisciplinary team with senior clinicians, Master students on clinical placement and new graduates from Occupational Therapy, Social Work, and Psychology. We also work closely with Psychiatric Registrars plus Art Therapists and Family Therapists.

In this role, you will provide:

  • One on one ongoing counselling sessions for young people aged 16-25 and their families and networks. These will be provided face-to-face at Elsternwick and Bentleigh sites or via Tele Health. Young people referred to the Start Now clinic are assessed by intake and deemed to be low risk and of lower complexity than other young people waiting to see a headspace primary clinician.
  • Single Session Family Therapy as a member of the multidisciplinary SSFT team.  You will be a co-therapist or part of the reflective team providing short-term interventions to families of young people.
  • Orientation and mentoring of masters students on clinical placement in the Start Now student clinic.
  • Group work interventions online and face to face including Positive Psychology and Tuning into Teens.
  • Discipline specific assessments OT/SW
  • Family interventions, parent work, family assessments and therapy
  • Community Education about headspace and youth mental health.
  • Liaison with schools and community agencies
  • Liaison, collaboration and planning with headspace staff including intake, primary clinicians, art therapy and family therapy staff

About you

  • Approved tertiary qualifications and eligibility for membership of AHPRA or relevant professional registering body
  • Appropriate work visa
  • Current Victorian Driver's License
  • Current Working with Children Check and be willing to undergo a Background Check
