Meet the team

The headspace team consists of the core staff, the Youth Reference Group, consortium members, and private practitioners.  See below to get to know us.

  James old pic2
I'm James, and I'm the Manager of the headspace Bondi Junction. I have a background working in social care both here and in the UK, and it’s as much a passion as a profession for me. I’ve been at this centre since it started, which has given me a great opportunity to set up the centre in a way that meets the needs of our local Eastern Suburbs community. Establishing a headspace service has allowed me to realise my vision of a best practice health care service for young people. There’s so much on offer at headspace, I really encourage young people and their carers to come in and meet us. We have a range of mental health, GP, dental, and welfare support services – all of them free via Medicare. And we’re continually growing our service range as well.
  Louise old pic2
I’m Louise and I’m the Clinical Lead. My work primarily involves managing our team of clinicians, as well as supporting our private practitioners, like our GP, psychologists and psychiatrists. We’re very lucky at headspace to have services provided to us from other organisations such as the Langton Centre, Jewish Care, Centre 360 and the Benevolent Society, and I coordinate these services too. I’m a trained mental health nurse, so while I support our team of mental health workers here, I sometimes am involved in helping young people with their initial consultations when they first come to headspace, as well as planning the best care pathway for them while they’re with us. I’m also well placed to help refer young people on to different services that we might have, or that are outside our service, depending on their needs.
I work Monday to Thursday, and you can contact me through the front desk on 9366 8800 or e-mail: headspacebondijunction@health.nsw.gov.au
  Sally Practice Manager2
I'm Sally, and I'm the Practice Manager. I have a professional background in medical administration, music & film. I’ve been working at this headspace since it started, so I’ve had the pleasure of helping set up the centre and its services. I’m responsible for the administration of the centre, including coordinating our health practitioners and allied health staff. I’m a behind the scenes kind of person in that I also maintain our IT services, building maintenance and support all of the staff in the building.  There are lots of daily challenges in running a busy centre like this, but the rewards are many. It is great to see what a difference our service can make to young people’s lives, and that motivates me to do my best. I have a particular passion for problem solving, if anything is not working out for you, or seems too difficult to organise, come and talk to me.  We are always open to feedback on our service, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me to let me know how we can help you or serve you better. I work here four days a week.
I’m Casey and I am a Youth Access Clinician at headspace Bondi Junction. I am a Social Worker and have experience working in mental health for a variety of different organisations, specialising in youth mental health and early intervention. Adolescence it is such an important stage of life where a lot of things are changing and sometimes it takes a little extra help to make sense of what’s happening.
My job at headspace is to help young people when they first come to headspace.  I love working for headspace, it seeks to empower young people and takes a holistic approach to addressing their needs and everyone at the centre is so friendly and welcoming! I work here Monday-Friday.

Paul pic colour

Hi I’m Paul and I’m a Youth Access Clinician. I am a Provisional Psychologist and my job is to help and support young people when they first come to headspace. I have been fortunate to work for multiple headspace centres along with a background working in rural and remote mental health, working with Indigenous Youth and LGBTIQA young people.
Rachel small
Hi, I'm Rachel and I’m a Youth Access Clinician.   My background is in Social work and I’m currently studying a Masters of Counselling. My role is to assess young people’s needs when they first come to the centre and work with a young person to link in with the right support. I’m very passionate about working with young people, and I believe that getting some strategies and coping mechanisms early on can be hugely beneficial for our mental health and wellbeing. I’m a qualified yoga teacher & love listening to Fleetwood Mac.

Hi, I’m Sophia. I am a social worker, and work at JewishCare as an NDIS Support Coordinator on the mental health team, and on Tuesdays I am at headspace doing intake.  I love that at headspace I have the opportunity to be part of a team that makes a difference in people’s lives early on, so they can build their independence and resilience. I love playing video games like Minecraft and the Sims 4 on PC, spending time with friends and family, and bingeing shows on Netflix (most recently, Brooklyn 99 and The Good Place).

Hi, I’m Cassie, I’m a Social Worker at Jewish Care in the Mental Health and Wellbeing team.  I’m at headspace on Thursday doing intake, and I really like that headspace is accessible to all young people, and free of charge!  Outside work I love lifting weights, and having a coffee at various cafes (I'm an ex-barista so a bit of a coffee snob).

Hi, I’m Nikki, and I'm a Senior Clinician/Psychologist here at headspace Bondi Junction.

Hi, I’m Eliza, I’m a Senior Clinician/Accredited Mental Health Social Worker, at headspace on Wednesdays and Thursdays. I love the team approach of headspace, we are all different parts of the puzzle supporting the various needs of young people.  I am also a yoga teacher and I work from a mindfulness approach, as it helps us to connect to the present amidst the chatter of our minds. I practice yoga and meditation, enjoy the great outdoors and getting in touch with our innate creativity!

Liesl web cropped

I’m Liesl and I’m a Community Engagement Officer. My work here involves connecting with our local community, and promoting the services and activities on offer at headspace. I really enjoy my job because it allows me to get out into our community and connect with people who are making a difference in young people’s lives. Coordinating the Youth Reference Group is really rewarding too, as I love seeing the young people who get involved really grow from their experiences, and contribute to how the centre runs. It’s wonderful being part of a team of people who are so committed to young people. I work four days a week Tuesday to Friday.

Chris cropped small

I’m Chris and I’m the Exercise Physiologist here at headspace Bondi Junction. Mental health and physical health go hand in hand. Coming into headspace helps you take good care of your mental health so my job is to make sure young people are looking after themselves from a physical point of view also. I have been fortunate enough to work across multiple headspace sites and see the positive impact exercise can make on young people and just how much it can improve their happiness.
Our first session is all about having a chat and seeing where you’re at in terms of health and fitness and then deciding what your goals are. From there, I can help with goal setting, nutrition, sleep advice and, of course exercise.
Exercise and physical activity should be something you enjoy so sessions are always based around what you are interested in and your specific goals. We keep things as fun and light hearted whilst ticking off some big achievements. I work here Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Jenni web cropped

I’m Jenni and I’m an Administrator at the Bondi Junction headspace office. I work at the front desk, and I’m here to help with any questions you might have about our service. When you first talk to someone at headspace, it will probably be myself or one of the other administrators, and we’ll help you to understand all the different services we offer here, or we’ll put you in touch with one of our clinicians who can help you.I think that headspace has so much to offer, it’s really worth coming in or giving us a call to explore our service. We are in a great location, and many young people are surprised at how friendly and inviting the centre is. Did you know we have GPs, social workers, psychologists and psychiatrists, sexual health nurses, drug and alcohol counsellors plus oral health services! I’ve got a background working with young people especially in high school settings, so I’m well placed to understand a lot of the issues young people are facing. That’s why I find my work here so rewarding. I’m here Monday to Friday so I look forward to seeing you at the front desk.

Ashleigh web2

I’m Ashleigh and I’m an Administrator at the Bondi Junction headspace office. I work at the front desk, and I’m here to help with any questions you might have about our centre. I’m a young person myself and I really like the inviting atmosphere here at headspace. You can come in and relax in our lounge, use our Wi-Fi and have a snack while you check out what’s available. Don’t be put off by the long outside corridor! I’m here Monday to Friday so I look forward to seeing you at the front desk.

Katie Pearce IPS crop

Hi, I’m Katie and I’m the Education Specialist for the Individual Placement and Support project at headspace Bondi Junction. I support people aged 15-25 stay in or return to school, Uni or TAFE.  My background is secondary teaching and have worked in the education sector for over 10 years. I have always loved working with young people and in particular supporting the wellbeing needs of each individual both inside and outside the classroom. When not at work, I spend my time hanging out with my family and friends and generally chasing after my two year old son. I enjoy playing tennis, going to the theatre and chocolate…a little too much.

Tessa web

My name is Tessa, I am a fourth year social work student.  I chose headspace as my final placement as I believe empowering, encouraging and supporting young people to have a positive experience with mental health services is so important.  I love being outdoors in any capacity, camping, surfing and bushwalks are my weekend favourites!

amanda morris

I’m Amanda and I’m a counsellor here at headspace in Bondi Junction. My job is to help young people with their drug and alcohol issues, along with other issues that might be affecting them. I do this by firstly meeting and getting to know you, sharing stories and discovering your strengths. Everybody has different needs when it comes to seeing a counsellor, so I take time to understand you and your situation. I’m not just looking for what’s wrong but also what’s right for you, and what you are capable of. I’ve been helping young people and adults to get a clear picture on how drugs and alcohol can affect their lives, and how to make positive changes, for over 13 years. A lot of studies have shown that getting help when you’re young can set you up really well with skills you can use throughout life. headspace is such a great environment for young people to talk openly and safely about these kinds of issues, without judgement and in confidence. It’s not always easy to seek help, but give us a go! I work all day on Wednesday, and appointments can be made through the front desk on 9366 8800 or e-mail: headspacebondijunction@health.nsw.gov.au

Karen Spielman for web2.jpg

Hi I’m Karen and I’m a GP. I’m here on a Tuesday and you might come to see me or one of the other wonderful GPs here if you have any concerns about your wellbeing at all. GPs can work closely with your YAC or counsellor if you are having some help for your mental health, or you can come and see us just for a check up if you’d like! Adolescence is a time of rapid change and sometimes it’s hard to work out what’s happening to your mind or body and our job as youth friendly GPs is to provide a safe space and a resource for you to be the healthiest and happiest possible. I’ve been involved in helping set up the Bondi Junction headspace and have worked with many young people in many different settings over the years and I also help out with teaching medical students and GP Registrars. Our service here is bulk billed on Medicare and we do our best to make sure any other medical costs you may incur such as tests or prescriptions are as low cost as possible.

Dr Mary web

I'm Dr Mary, and I am a GP here at headspace Bondi Junction. You can see me here on Wednesday mornings and Thursdays.

Dr Bec

Hi, I’m Bec and I am a GP at headspace which I really enjoy. I love being able to help support teenagers and young adults with their medical and mental health needs as they navigate their adolescent years. I also aim to provide them with a positive experience with accessing medical care and GPs in the community. In my spare time I like hang out with my family, head to the beach, go to the gym, read and sleep.

Sexual health nurses pic2 crop light2
Hi, our names are Maria, Jane and Colleen (left to right) and we’re specialist sexual health nurses at headspace. We know that sometimes talking about sex stuff might be embarrassing or scary so we want to reassure you that our clinic is a safe and private place where you can come to talk freely and get information and help. As well as doing STI, HIV and hepatitis testing and treatment, we can explain the latest HIV prevention methods and medications like PREP and PEP. We can also do pregnancy tests, give out the ‘morning after pill’ and talk about the right contraception for you. To visit the clinic just drop in during clinic hours on  Monday 1-5pm or Wednesday 2-6pm and ask to see the sexual health nurse (or Satellite clinic).  No appointment or referral is needed. Our service is free and you do not need your Medicare card to visit us.

Hi, I’m Simone and I am a Family Counsellor working for Centre 360, and am available at headspace on Tuesdays. I can provide counselling to a whole family or part of the family. This can be really helpful when families are arguing a lot, using anger in unhealthy ways or having trouble communicating. Young people tell me that when life at home is really difficult, it can then become difficult in other parts of their life and other relationships. Family counselling provides a safe opportunity to explore what’s bothering a young person and their family as the Counsellor helps to bring calm to discussions and helps family members to explore feelings and thoughts and look at different ways of responding to situations or feelings. Parents and their children often want to be the best they can be but sometimes things get in the way such as learning some unhealthy ways of expressing thoughts and feelings in their childhood. Lots of families have family counselling now and find it beneficial. I studied nursing, counselling and psychotherapy to obtains degrees in these areas and also hold a Masters of Counselling. I’m really passionate about continuing my learning so that I can offer the best to my clients.

Sam cropped light1

Hi, I’m Sam and I’m a psychologist here at headspace in Bondi Junction. My job is to help young people with their mental health issues. I do this by firstly meeting and getting to know you, and through that process I find out what’s happening in your life. Everybody has different needs when it comes to seeing a psychologist, so I take time to understand you and your situation, and then together we work out how best to go forward. I’m particularly experienced in helping young people deal with anxiety and depression, and all the things that contribute to that, like stresses at school, home, in social situations, and drug and alcohol issues. It takes courage to come forward and seek help. I think headspace is a very safe and welcoming place for young people to get that help. I work on Wednesday mornings and all day Thursday.

Tawna cropped

I'm Tawna and I'm one of the private practitioners working at headspace Bondi Junction. I look after young people who have been referred to me by a GP. The young people I work with engage with me for around ten sessions, I believe it’s really important to build trust and have this be a space where they can feel safe to explore big feelings and share overwhelming thoughts, and work collaboratively to overcome obstacles. The therapy I provide is all about inviting young people to make choices, and to increase their sense of control over their personal situation and take responsibility for their own mental health. I’ve got particular experience working with anxiety, trauma, grief and loss, as well as a range of parenting issues (young parents, or child/parent relationships). I work here on Wednesdays and Fridays.

Hi, I'm Jenny and I am a Clinical Psychologist with almost 20 years' experience.  I love working with young people because I love their energy, honesty, creativity, flexibility, and resilience. It brings a smile to my face, knowing that my job is to help young people achieve their full potential and feel happier, more confident, and better about themselves. I also love to hang out with my two daughters, play with my pug Elvis, go to the beach, and visit new places. I love listening to music (my fav is Green Day!) and going to the theatre.

Kate web2

I'm Dr. Kate and while I am without a doubt the oldest person on the team, what I lack in being “hip” I think I make up with wisdom, worldly experience and patience. I believe the best high school graduation present is a passport and I love talking about “Happiness”.

Savoy web
Hi, I’m Savoy and I am available on Mondays at headspace as a Family Counsellor. I think adolescence is a very exciting time, and my work involves assisting families to understand, adjust to, and support, the many changes that happen during this period. I love helping parents and young people to appreciate and value their differences, and reduce conflict through improved communication strategies.  This helps everyone, in every area of their lives.  I can work with the whole family, or only parent/s. I also run Tuning into Teens groups, which is a wonderful opportunity for parents to gain support from other parents, while they learn new ways of relating to their young people. Appointments are made through our friendly front desk.

Joycelin IMG 7650 cropped3

Hi, I'm Joycelyn and I'm a clinical psychologist working as a private practitioner at headspace. I'm experienced in helping young people manage a wide range of mental health concerns, and I've got particular expertise in anxiety, depression and low mood, school/study difficulties, relationship and family issues, and coping with life transitions/adjustment.  My approach is collaborative and strengths-focused. I work together with you to find ways best suited to you to address your concerns. I am trained in approaches such as cognitive behaviour therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and mindfulness-based techniques.  I work here on Fridays.

Taryn pic colour2
Hi, I'm Taryn. I’m a counselling psychologist, and I love working with young people as it lets me be creative and tailor an individual approach to each person – there’s no one style fits all.  I adore my two dogs, (King Charles Cavalier Spaniels), Lily and Ruby, and love going on bush walks.

My name is Ana and I am Bilingual Mental Health Practitioner (Psychologist) with a particular interest in Cross-Cultural Psychology and experience working with migrants and refugee people. I love working with young people from all cultures and walks of life, helping them to realise their potential and improve their overall wellbeing. I am all about finding new opportunities, identifying strengths and coping resources you may already have and fostering a sense of hope. Outside work I enjoy connecting with my awesome family and friends (I am from Latin-America where community and socialising is big!). I also enjoy practising yoga and meditation among many other things in LIFE.

Hi. I'm Bronwyn and I'm a private practitioner at headspace.
Warren web2

Hiya. I'm Warren. Being a psychologist at headspace for me means helping you to realise your inner strengths, use some helpful psychological tools, and make sense of what’s going on inside.  When I’m not helping people de-stress, I’m an actor in Playback Theatre.  I also play didge, and try to get out for a surf when I can.

Hi, I'm Daniel and I am a Youth Psychiatrist. I have been a doctor for nearly 20 years but before that I worked in the IT field when a good hard drive held 20Mb of information, or about one thousandth of 1 per cent of what they hold now. I have two teenage children and I am the youngest of eight children so I always had to work to make myself heard. I love working with young people because they are the future and they keep me feeling young! I enjoy cooking, reading, travelling and keeping fit - all of which I hope also keep me feeling young.
