Youth Suicide Prevention Community Forum

What are you doing for World Mental Health Day? Save the date for our 2019 Youth Suicide Prevention Community Forum!
Suicide is the leading cause of death for young people in Australia. Suicide and suicide-related behaviour not only affects the individual young person, but also has a lasting impact on friends, family members, peers and classmates, and the wider community. The significance of this issue is one reason why suicide prevention has been chosen as the theme of World Mental Health Day 2019.
We are inviting schools, young people, and key stakeholders from across the north-west Melbourne region to attend our third Youth Suicide Prevention Community Forum on Wednesday, October 9th at Melbourne Zoo, which is being opened by the Minister for Mental Health, Martin Foley. The Forum will have a focus on youth suicide prevention in education settings, and how young people can stay safe when talking on social media about suicide. The day will include information sessions, group consultations and a panel discussion which will be co-convened by young people.
This is an opportunity to get involved in suicide prevention work in the north west community, and for key stakeholders in the region to share their perspectives on how we can support young people to safely talk about suicide online. We want to hear from you!
Sign up here for more information and you’ll be the first to know when registrations open.
We look forward to meeting you at this year’s community forum!
