headspace Greensborough is operated by Mind. All headspace services are funded by the Australian Government Department of Health. Administration of funding is carried out by the headspace centre’s local Primary Health Network, in this case, Eastern Melbourne PHN.

Centres have a range of programs and activities for young people. Just ask your centre what they have on.

headspace Greensborough works closely with a group of young volunteers who provide valuable input into our centre to ensure it is accessible and youth friendly.
Known as the YAC (Youth Advisory Committee), these passionate and committed young people get involved in a range of awareness raising and mental health promotion activities such as:
* Delivering presentations to schools and community groups on topics relevant to young people's mental health and wellbeing
* Planning and delivering mental health awareness raising events within the local community
* Providing important input into the ongoing development of the headspace Greensborough service.

Getting here and what to expect
headspace Greensborough is located on Level 1, 78 Main Street Greensborough - access to us is via The Walk, we are above the Westpac and Bendigo Banks (look for the headspace sign on the door near the Bendigo Bank atm).
If coming by car we recommend that you park in the Watermarc carpark behind our centre. By public transport we are a short walk from Greensborough Railway Station and a number of bus routes stop nearby on Main Street and Para Road, including the:
513, 517, 518, 901, 902.
We can also see young people from our Outreach Site at The Edge Youth Services, Westfield Plenty Valley, MM1/415McDonalds Rd, Mill Park. How to arrange an appointment at headspace Greensborough:
The first step in organising support through headspace Greensborough is to have a chat with a member of our Intake Team. Arranging this is as easy as giving us a call on 9433 7200 during our opening hours - 9:00am - 5:00pm Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday and 10:00am - 6:45pm Mondays and Thursdays. If you are concerned about making the call to headspace Greensborough yourself, you can always ask a family member or trusted support person to call with you or on your behalf. We are a voluntary service and the Intake Team will ask to talk with you to make sure you are happy to attend headspace Greensborough for support.
What you need to know before your first appointment at headspace Greensborough:
Two days before your first appointment at headspace Greensborough you will receive a reminder text message. Please reply to this to let us know you'll be coming.
At your first appointment we will ask you to arrive 15 mins early to complete a registration form and a brief survey on an ipad before you meet with your headspace clinician. You'll then meet one of our Intake Clinicians who will have a longer chat with you about how you are going and how we can help. This usually lasts around an hour. We'll then make a plan with you for support.
For some of our counselling options you'll need a Medicare card in order to access sessions under a Mental Health Care Plan. Did you know that if you are aged 15 years or older, you are able to apply for your own Medicare Card. For more information on how to apply for a Medicare card, go to: bit.ly/medicarecard If you don't have a Medicare card there are still options for support at headspace Greensborough, including counselling with our Community Mental Health Practitioners, music therapy, group programs and services with our partner organisations, including alcohol and other drugs support, employment/training support, relationships counselling.
Its okay to feel nervous about getting help for the first time, it can be helpful to bring along a family member, carer or friend to support you.

Sometimes it can be helpful to have someone to talk to about worries before your appointment with your headspace Clinician. Create, Connect, Explore is a relaxed, fun group in which young people can explore ideas, dreams and emotions through arts focused activities. The group runs each Thursday from 4:00pm - 5:00pm. headspace Greensborough is a family and friends inclusive service. headspace Greensborough believes that family and friends play an important role in a young person's journey to better wellbeing.
We know that involving family and friends in a young person’s care can lead to better health outcomes for young people. Wherever possible, we advocate for and provide meaningful opportunities for family and friends to directly participate in our services.

Tuning In To Teens Parenting Courses
Tuning In To Teens (TINT) is an evidence based program that supports parents to help adolescents manage the many emotional challenges associated with the teenage years. The program covers how to manage your own and your adolescent's emotions in ways that help you remain close and keep communicating.
The program is based on the concept of Emotional Intelligence. Emotional Intelligence (EQ) is about being able to use your own knowledge of emotions to make decisions, manage anger and conflict, to assist in relationships with people. Research has shown that adolescents with greater emotional intelligence:
are more aware, assertive and strong in situations of peer pressure
- have greater success with making friends and are more able to manage conflict with peers
- are more able to cope when upset or angry
- have fewer mental health and substance abuse difficulties
- Emotional Intelligence may be a better predictor of academic and career success than IQ.

How do I make a referral?
Please phone us on (03) 9433 7200 and ask to speak with a member of our Intake Team about a new referral. When you make this initial call, it is ideal to have the young person with you to expedite the process. Our Intake Team are available to take referral enquiries at the following times:
Monday: 10:00am – 5:30pm
Tuesday: 9:00am – 4:30pm
Wednesday: 1:00pm – 4:30pm
Thursday: 10:00am – 5:30pm
Friday 9:00am – 4:30pm
Occasionally we will need to take your details and call you back at a more suitable time, we will endeavour to return your call as soon as possible.
If you wish to refer a young person and they are under 16, we do encourage you to discuss the referral with their parents or guardians prior to contacting us.
You can also encourage the young person to call us, drop in or invite their parents and friends to call on their behalf.

What to consider when referring
1. What are the young person's main concerns?
2. What other organisations and supports are already in place for the young person?
What can a young person expect at their first appointment?
Young people are offered an initial assessment with an Intake and Assessment Clinician. The main purpose of this initial session is to explore the young person's concerns and what their goals for support are.
What happens next?
We will discuss the young persons circumstances as a team and decide how best to provide them with the support they need. The Intake and Assessment Clinician will keep in touch with the young person until they are linked in with either a headspace Greensborough team member or a more suitable service. Sometimes we will require additional information in order to make the most informed choice about the young person's care, in which case we will attempt to make contact with you, or the young person's family and friends.
Please note: We will confirm most appointments by SMS two days prior and invite the young person to respond with a yes or no. If the young person is not able to attend, we require 24 hours cancellation notice. We encourage young people to confirm their appointments as soon as possible so as we can best accommodate all young people that seek support from our service.
