Roaming Community Kitchen Project

Alexandria Park HS

headspace Camperdown in conjunction with NASCA and Youthblock delivered three workshops over two consecutive weeks on health, stress and Mindfulness and Nutrition for our Roaming Kitchens program at Alexandria Park Community School. The program educates and makes young people aware of the importance of Health, stress and mindfulness and Nutrition. The project is delivered to teenagers between the ages of 14-17 years of age in a specific format which covers information to the workshops, practical sessions on the topic and real life scenarios on how teenagers cope. 21 students from years 7-10 participated on week one and 18 students participated in week two all were from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander background.

The highlight of the program was the appearance of Nathan Merritt on week 1, the former South's Sydney NRL and NSW origin star. Nathan who grew up in the area and a former student of the school spoke about the importance of health education in a young person's life and a number of successful methods young people can utilize with their mind.

Our next Roaming Kitchens Program is likely to be in Marrickville during the July school holidays.
